COLOMBO (News 1st); Just days after the world celebrated International Reggae Day on July 1st, Sri Lanka is preparing to write a new chapter in its musical history. The legendary Ivorian reggae icon Alpha Blondy, backed by his renowned band Solar System, is set to perform live in Colombo on July 19th, at the Air Force Grounds.
Reggae, a unique form of rock music originating in Jamaica in the late 1960s, draws its rich sound from traditional Jamaican melodies blended with the rhythms of American rhythm ‘n’ blues, which found their way to the island through early radio broadcasts. More than just a musical genre, reggae carries a profound global message of unity and peace – a message Alpha Blondy embodies and amplifies through his powerful artistry.
Recognized as one of the most influential reggae artists of our time, Alpha Blondy has enchanted fans across continents with anthems such as Sébé Allah Yé,' Jerusalem', 'Cocody Rock', and 'Brigadier Sabari'. His unique blend of traditional reggae with vibrant African rhythms, coupled with his ability to sing in multiple languages allows his music to resonate universally. He was also significantly inspired by artists like Bob Marley, and even recorded with The Wailers in Jamaica.
With deep roots in West Africa and a strong inspiration from Jamaica, Alpha Blondy's sound delivers potent messages of peace, unity, and love, touching millions worldwide. The event, titled “Alpha Blondy Live in Sri Lanka,” is organized by Big Blast Events in collaboration with Yes101 and EarGear Productions. Yes101 is the Official Media Partner of the event.
