COLOMBO (News 1st); Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Chaminda Wijesiri cautioned that a lack of proper understanding and implementation of necessary internal reforms could lead to a division within the party.
He made these remarks during a special media briefing held in Colombo.
Wijesiri emphasized that the SJB must build a clean and visionary leadership structure that aligns with the future needs of the country. He stated that this process would require a reorganization of several key positions within the party.
“We are not afraid to say whether certain individuals should step down or be removed. Sajith Premadasa knows better than anyone how the United National Party was destroyed. We must ensure the same fate does not befall the SJB,” he said.
He urged party leader Sajith Premadasa to pay closer attention to certain appointments made under his leadership, suggesting that some positions may not be contributing effectively to the party’s success.
“We respect seniority and acknowledge the sacrifices made by many. But the party needs victories. Those who were overlooked deserve recognition, even if it’s in second-tier roles,” Wijesiri added.
He noted that the proposal for reform has already gained acceptance within society and that there is no hesitation in presenting it publicly.
“We must not repeat past mistakes. If the SJB can move forward with a new team and a clear direction, it will be for the better.”
Wijesiri stressed that the restructuring should not be seen as division, but rather as a strengthening of the party’s foundation.
“If these truths are misunderstood or distorted, it could lead to a split—one that would ultimately serve the agenda of political conspirators. That’s why we urge the leadership to take responsibility and act wisely.”
