COLOMBO(News 1st)The former Chairman of the Wattegama Municipal Council and two others, arrested over the illegal import and false registration of two jeeps, have been remanded until the 15th.
They were produced before Teldeniya Acting Magistrate Kumari Karaliyadda following their arrest by the Central Crime Investigation Division, which acted on a tip-off.
Police revealed that the suspects had altered official records of the Department of Motor Traffic to register the vehicles.
One of the arrested individuals is Ravindra Bandara, the former Wattegama Municipal Council Chairman elected under the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the 2018 local government elections.
The other suspect is Lakshitha Manoj Weerabahu, who is reported to have worked closely with former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte.
