Kotte Councillor Released on Bail Over Contempt

COLOMBO (News 1st); Harshani Sandaruwani, a municipal councillor of the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council, has been released on bail following her arrest by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Sandaruwani was taken into custody and presented before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court in connection with allegations of contempt of court.

The charges stem from remarks made following the arrest and court appearance of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe on August 2, which were deemed disrespectful to the judiciary and its rulings.

Police confirmed that she was released on two personal bails of Rs. 500,000 each.
