132 Private Buses Fined for Ticket Violations

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority has taken action against 132 private bus conductors for failing to issue tickets to passengers.

In addition, fines were imposed on nine passengers who were found traveling without valid tickets.

The authority also reported that 228 drivers and conductors were penalized for various other violations, including using mobile phones while driving, operating without a valid license, and possession of forged documents. 

These individuals have been temporarily suspended from service and directed to undergo mandatory retraining.

Chairman Jayasinghe emphasized that continuous operations are underway to ensure compliance with regulations across all private buses operating in the Western Province. 

The enforcement follows the implementation of a new ticket issuing policy that came into effect on the 1st of this month.
