COLOMBO (News 1st); The United Kingdom formally handed over £675,000 ($890,000) in urgent humanitarian assistance to Minister of Foreign Affairs Vijitha Herath yesterday (December 2) to support families devastated by Cyclone Ditwah.
The handover took place during a meeting with Acting British High Commissioner Theresa O’Mahony, who reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to helping Sri Lanka recover from the severe storm.
This vital funding will be channeled through humanitarian partners already on the ground, including the Red Cross, UN agencies, and local civil society organizations.
It will provide life-saving care and emergency supplies, such as shelter materials, clean water, and sanitation facilities, to meet the immediate needs of affected communities.
In a statement, His Majesty The King expressed his deepest condolences to all those impacted by Cyclone Ditwah and paid tribute to the courage of emergency responders and aid workers.
The UK emphasized that this donation reflects its enduring friendship and solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka during this time of hardship.
