COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) says a decision will be reached today regarding the fuel distribution procedure for tomorrow. This clarification is necessary as both today and tomorrow fall on "odd" dates under the current rationing calendar. Managing Director of CPC, Dr. Mayura Neththikumarage says that a special discussion is being held today to finalize the guidelines for the public.
In terms of supply, the Corporation confirmed that a tanker carrying 32,000 metric tons of fuel is scheduled to arrive in the country this Thursday.
Meanwhile, police have cracked down on illegal hoarding, arresting 27 suspects over the past few weeks. According to official reports, authorities seized over 44,000 liters of diesel and more than 2,000 liters of petrol during these raids. Police Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler, emphasized that the law will be strictly enforced against those illegally stockpiling fuel.
Turning to the gas supply, Litro Gas has announced that a stock of 42,000 metric tons belonging to Sri Lanka is currently stationed in the Maldives. Chairman Channa Gunawardena stated that efforts are underway to bring this stock to the island immediately, noting that it will be sufficient to meet the demand for April.
Furthermore, a vessel carrying an additional 33,000 metric tons for the month of May is expected to arrive on April 25th. Providing further updates, Laugfs Gas CEO Nalinda Kurukulasuriya confirmed that a ship with 7,000 metric tons of gas is set to reach Sri Lankan shores on April 4th.
