Notorious Crime Boss 'Karandeniye Raju' to be Detained for 90 Days Under PTA

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Organized crime leader Sobanahandi Sanath de Silva, alias "Karandeniye Raju," will be held for 90 days under detention for questioning under the powers of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), police confirmed.

The suspect is currently being questioned under a 72-hour detention order, which is set to expire today.

The suspect was apprehended by Indian security forces in New Delhi after traveling there from Dubai.

He was brought back to Sri Lanka last Saturday night the 18th of April following a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) through the Interpol.

Raju is the brother of another notorious organized criminal known as "Karandeniya Sudda."

He is considered one of the country's most wanted criminals, with an extensive criminal record. 

15 warrants were issued on Raju by various courts across the island, with 26 separate overseas travel bans.

An interpol Red Notice had been issued for his arrest.

Police stated that he is a primary suspect in numerous grave crimes, including contract killings and arms trafficking. 

His criminal operations reportedly spanned several areas, including Mitiyagoda, Karandeniya, Elpitiya and Galle.
