COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka has recorded a 19.8% increase in foreign remittances received during the first eight months of this year, compared to the corresponding period last year.
Sri Lanka received US$6.131 Billion in foreign remittances from Sri Lankan migrant workers during the first eight months of this year.
The Central Bank said Sri Lanka received US$5.116 Billion in worker remittances during the first eight months of last year.
According to a report issued by the Central Bank, Sri Lanka received US$748.6 million in remittances last month alone.
This represents an increase of US$67.8 million compared to August last year.
