Police Deploy Two Teams To Probe Dematagoda Shooting

COLOMBO (News 1st); A police investigation has been launched into the fatal shooting of a three-wheeler driver beneath the Kalupalama Bridge in Dematagoda, with two special police teams assigned to probe the killing.

Police Spokesman Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler stated that the victim was a 50-year-old resident of Udugama in the Galle District.

The shooting took place yesterday (17) afternoon when the victim was allegedly shot and killed with a pistol.

According to preliminary investigations, police suspect that the gunman may have been a passenger travelling in the rear seat of the three-wheeler at the time of the incident. Authorities believe the suspect opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Police further revealed that information gathered so far indicates that the deceased had previously served in the Sri Lanka Army.
