COLOMBO (News 1st); The Attorney General’s Department has dismissed reports claiming that a letter to release three individuals linked to the murder of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge has been recalled.

The department clarified that it has instructed the police to provide any new developments regarding the case.

The department added that as of Friday, no new files related to the investigation had been submitted to the department.

A recent statement issued by the Attorney General emphasized that the releases of the individuals do not impede the filing of criminal charges should new evidence emerge.

The statement, signed by State Counsel Angelo Van Hoff on behalf of the Attorney General, also mentioned the release of Prem Ananda Udalagama, who was connected to the kidnapping of Wickramatunga's driver. The decision was made due to insufficient evidence to press charges against him.

Additionally, Don Thissasiri Sugathapala and Prasanna Nanayakkara, who were arrested in relation to the disappearance of a document from Wickramatunga's vehicle, were released for similar reasons, citing a lack of evidence to file charges.
