COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health and Mass Media says new laws will be implemented to regulate private medical institutions.
Deputy Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni says the act currently in effect in regards to this is not strong enough.
According to the existing act, registration of all private medical institutions is mandatory.
The Deputy Minister stated that such registrations are not taking place despite the act in effect.
Accordingly, new laws are being drafted to register all private medical institutions and create a new mechanism for their regulation.
The Deputy Minister stated that under these new laws, control prices will also be imposed on the fees charged for chemical services, tests and fees charged from patients by private medical institutions.
