“We’re on the Right Path” – Treasury Secretary on Sri Lanka’s Future

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has entered a phase of economic stability, following a period of intense reform and resilience, according to Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Treasury.

Speaking on the country’s economic outlook, Dr. Suriyapperuma emphasized that Sri Lanka has successfully navigated a difficult path, thanks to the collective efforts of entrepreneurs, businesses, government institutions, and society at large.

“Political stability is prevailing. Now, economic stability is established,” he said, adding that independent rating agencies and multilateral institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, and ADB have expressed confidence in Sri Lanka’s direction.

He credited the government’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption and its focus on institutional governance as key factors driving renewed international trust.

Dr. Suriyapperuma acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting that the global landscape is evolving rapidly. “By the time we settle one thing, there will be a new challenge to deal with tomorrow,” he said, urging the nation to move forward with wisdom, courage, and energy.

With stability now in place, the Treasury Secretary called for a shift in focus toward economic growth, encouraging support for entrepreneurs and innovators who are taking risks to build the future.
