Separate Salary Structure Proposed for Police Service

COLOMBO (News 1st): Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala announced that steps will be taken to introduce a separate salary structure for the police service. 

He stated that the relevant proposals will be submitted to the President and incorporated into the 2026 national budget.

Responding to concerns raised by Members of Parliament, Minister Wijepala also noted that necessary training programs will be implemented to enhance the efficiency of police officers.

Attention was also drawn to police stations where investigations against OICs accused of irregularities and illegal acts are reportedly not conducted fairly. The Minister has instructed the Acting IGP to address these concerns.

The committee also discussed drug prevention, the use of illegal fishing gear, and the importance of protecting the identities of individuals who report illegal activities to the police.
