COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has voiced serious concerns over what it describes as irregular and unlawful practices in the implementation of medical officer transfers, warning that the situation could lead to a collapse of essential healthcare services in remote regions.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Prasad Colombage, a member of the GMOA Executive Committee, stated that several hospital units—particularly in rural areas—are now under threat due to the disruption of the official transfer process.

In response, the GMOA has announced a collective sick leave campaign on August 7, calling all doctors serving in remote areas to report to Colombo for an emergency discussion.
