COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan police have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the fatal shooting of former United National Party (UNP) Pradeshiya Sabha member Shantha Mudunkotuwa, with the arrest of the suspected getaway vehicle and its driver in Battaramulla’s Thalangama area.
According to police sources, the vehicle believed to have been used by the gunmen was intercepted following a high-speed pursuit after the shooting.
The suspects had reportedly fled the scene in Meegoda after opening fire on Mudunkotuwa, who was traveling on a motorcycle along Atigala Road.
The incident occurred around 1:00 PM, when assailants in a car approached and fired at the 46-year-old politician.
He was rushed to Homagama Hospital with critical injuries but succumbed shortly after admission.
Mudunkotuwa was a resident of Wataraka, Padukka.
