Former Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenne Further Remanded Until 27th

COLOMBO (News 1st): Former Navy Commander Nishantha Ulugetenne has been further remanded until the 27th of this month.

The order was issued after he was produced before the Polgahawela Magistrate’s Court today.

Ulugetenne was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department on the 28th of last month in connection with investigations into the abduction and murder of a man in the Pothuhera area.

Police revealed that at the time of the alleged incident in 2010, Ulugetenne was serving as the head of the Navy Intelligence Unit, under whose command an unlawful detention centre, where the abducted individual was allegedly held, had been operating.

Investigations into the case began based on a letter sent from the detention centre several days after the abduction.

Several other suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident.
