Priyantha weerasuriya appointed new IGP: first in history to rise from constable to top post

COLOMBO (News 1st): Senior Deputy Inspector General and Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya has been officially appointed as the new Inspector General of Police.

The appointment letter was presented to him today by Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

Priyantha Weerasuriya becomes the 37th Inspector General of Police in Sri Lanka.

He also makes history as the first IGP to have served in the positions of Police Constable, Sub-Inspector, and Assistant Superintendent of Police and risen through the ranks before being appointed to the top post.
