Multiple Fatalities Reported in Separate Road Accidents Across the Country

COLOMBO( News 1st):

One person has died and 22 others have been injured in a bus accident in Weliyaya, Monaragala.

Police said the accident took place around 5:30 a.m today when a private bus carrying passengers from Tissamaharama to Okanda collided with a SLTB bus.  The driver of the SLTB bus, a 34-year-old resident of Ruwalwela in Dambagalla, died in the crash.

All injured passengers have been admitted to the Monaragala Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, three more people have died in separate road accidents reported in the Kurana, Giriulla, and Maradankadawala areas.

In Kudapaduwa, Negombo, a 19-year-old youth from the same area died after the motorcycle he was riding veered off the road and crashed into a house wall. In the Kurana area on the Colombo–Chilaw main road, a 34-year-old man from Talahena, Negombo, died after being struck by a van.

In Mattegama, Giriulla, a person died after being hit by a lorry. The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed. Separately, in Namalgama area on the Thirukkondiyanmandu road in Maradankadawala, a 34-year-old man died after falling from the platform of a private bus, according to police.
