COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayek will inaugurate the renovation of the historic Maradana Railway Station.
This initiative is part of the broader National Railway Station Modernization Program, which aims to upgrade 100 railway stations across the island.
The project’s core objective is to enhance public amenities and convert railway stations into eco-friendly, safe, and passenger-centric spaces.
It aligns with the government’s vision of fostering a sustainable transport system and promoting a higher quality of life for all citizens.
The first phase of the program commenced earlier this month with the renovation of the Thalpe railway station in Galle.
The Maradana station, a key transit hub with deep historical significance, will undergo modernization without compromising its architectural heritage.
In addition to station upgrades, the project will introduce a range of safety enhancements, including the installation of signal and lighting systems at high-risk railway crossings.
By revitalizing the railway network, the government aims to ensure a more reliable, efficient, and attractive mode of transportation for both local commuters and international visitors.
