MoE Reveals School Schedules and Reform Implementations for 2026

COLOMBO (News1st): The Ministry of Education announced how school activities, for the 2026 academic year, starting the 21st of January will be conducted.

Accordingly, the daily class schedules for Grades 6 to 13 will be reverted to the previous format of eight periods per day, with 40 minutes of duration for each period.

The Ministry of Education announced this yesterday, in line with the Cabinet decision made on the 13th. 

The announcement also said that academic activities related to the proposed new educational reforms for Grade 1 will commence on the 29th of this month.

However, the same syllabus used in previous years will continue for 2026, for Grade 6 students and students should use the same textbooks as in previous years.

Additionally, Teacher training programs related to the new educational reforms are scheduled to be carried out continuously throughout the year 2026.
