Walk For Peace Draws Thousands Along Route to Sacred Tooth Relic Temple

COLOMBO (News 1st); The second day of the “Walk For Peace In The Island Of Peace” commenced today (23) in Sri Lanka, with the walk beginning from the historic Aluvihara in Matale.

The destination for today is the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. The Walk For Peace reached Aluvihara yesterday (22) after covering a distance of more than 42 kilometres from the Rangiri Dambulla Raja Maha Viharaya.

The Global Walk For Peace is being held under the guidance of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and Maharaja Media Network is the Official Media and Coordination Partner for the Sri Lankan chapter of the Global Walk for Peace.

Thousands of people gathered along the roadsides as members of the Maha Sangha proceeded with the message of peace. The Walk For Peace, which will resume tomorrow (24) from the main courtyard of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is scheduled to reach the Beligammana Raja Maha Viharaya in Kegalle.

From the Beligammana Raja Maha Viharaya, the march will continue the following day to Tholangamuwa Central College. On April 26, the walk will proceed from Tholangamuwa Central College to Yakkala Chandrajothi College.

The march beginning near Yakkala Chandrajothi College on April 27 is scheduled to conclude at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya.

On April 28, the peace walk will resume from the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya and is expected to reach Independence Square by 4:00 p.m.

At Independence Square, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is to ceremonially hand over saplings of the Sri Maha Bodhi to members of the Maha Sangha who were brought from the United States on a diplomatic basis.

From Independence Square, the procession will travel in past the Maharaja Media Network head office before proceeding to the Gangaramaya Temple, marking the conclusion of the “Walk For Peace In The Island Of Peace”
