COLOMBO (News 1st): Police have launched an investigation into the discovery of a stone weighing approximately 160 kilograms concealed among sugarcane stocks at the Sevanagala Sugar Factory.
Authorities said the investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by the Sevanagala factory management.
Police are currently recording statements from witnesses as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Monaragala District Coordinating Committee and Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security, R. M. Jayawardena, visited the Sevanagala Sugar Factory yesterday and held discussions with officials regarding the incident.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the government will not permit acts of sabotage to undermine the sugar industry and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stable sugar prices.
