Rise in Child and Women Abuse Complaints in First Half of 2025 – Police Bureau Reports

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Police Children and Women Bureau says that complaints related to child and women abuse have increased during the first six months of this year, compared to the same period last year.

According to the bureau, a total of 9,503 complaints were received in the first half of 2025.

Out of these, 1,620 were related to serious incidents of child abuse, while 373 complaints were linked to severe cases of abuse against women.

The bureau further stated that swift investigations are currently underway in response to these complaints.
