ITAK announces hartal in North-East: shops and transport operate normally

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) announced a harthal campaign in the Northern and Eastern provinces this morning.

However, News 1st correspondents reported that daily activities continued as usual in many areas.

Most shops were open in the morning, in Jaffna town. Although the Thirunalveli shopping complex in Jaffna remained closed, business continued as normal in surrounding shops.

In Kilinochchi, the hartal was in effect until 10 a.m., but shops are now open.

In Mullaitivu, most shops remained closed this morning.

News 1st correspondents further said that public transport services operated as usual.

Meanwhile, activities in Batticaloa town proceeded as normal today.
