COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is surging with renewed energy in 2025, as the latest data shows a stellar rise in international visitors and widespread global interest in the island’s charm, according to figures released by Ministry of Tourism. 

Key Highlights:

1. Tourist arrivals for January to August 17th, 2025, have reached 1,497,514—an impressive 21.4% year-on-year increase for January alone, reflecting strong momentum throughout the first half of the year.

2. The month of August saw 129,226 visitors up to the 17th, outpacing the same period last year by more than 20,000 tourists.

3. India remains the top source market, sending 307,502 visitors so far, with the United Kingdom, Russia, and Germany also posting strong contributions. Other major source countries such as China, France, Australia, and the United States highlight Sri Lanka’s broad international appeal.

4. Tourist numbers in 2025 consistently beat last year’s benchmarks, despite ambitious forecasts—demonstrating Sri Lanka's enduring allure for holidaymakers seeking adventure, culture, and relaxation.

5. Positive trends span all key months, with double-digit growth for most periods and robust gains even during what are traditionally off-peak seasons.
