COLOMBO(News 1st); Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is experiencing a remarkable upswing, welcoming nearly 1.5 million visitors from January to mid-August 2025. The growth trend has been consistent, with most months recording double-digit increases over last year, reflecting renewed global confidence in the island nation as a safe and vibrant destination.

The first half of August alone saw 129,226 tourist arrivals, a sharp rise from 109,159 in the same period of 2024. India continues to lead as Sri Lanka’s top source market, with more than 307,000 arrivals so far this year, followed by strong numbers from the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, and China. European markets, including Italy, France, and Spain, are also showing a healthy comeback, while Australia and Japan remain steady contributors.

With beaches, cultural heritage, wildlife, and wellness experiences drawing travelers from across the world, Sri Lanka is reaffirming its place as one of Asia’s most attractive tourist destinations. The latest figures underscore the sector’s role as a vital engine of economic growth and a symbol of the country’s resilience.
