COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has recorded 1.5 million tourist arrivals so far in 2025, highlighting the country's strong recovery and growing appeal as a premier travel destination.
Between the 1st of January 2025 and 17th August 2025, the highest number of arrivals were recorded from India, which stood at 307,502, followed by the United Kingdom at 145,448 and Russia at 117,681.
This achievement is attributed to a series of proactive measures implemented to attract more visitors, including infrastructure upgrades, streamlined visa processes, and targeted global marketing campaigns.
With the government setting an ambitious target of 3 million tourist arrivals by the end of 2025, this year has been declared the “Year of Tourism Revival.” A wide range of programs are underway to enhance tourism infrastructure and build capacity among industry professionals.
